about

As a long time friend of Jeremy, and as someone who has spent many
hours talking about music with him, it is tempting upon listening to
his new LP, Sundown, to fall into a familiar pub table discussion
pattern.

There is an urge to immediately jump back into our shared musical
memories for linkage and reference.

This is only natural. Especially as Sundown does bear - very
favourable - comparison to a host of albums from the last 50 years
which could be found in various record shop sections from ambient to
new age to minimalist, modern classical and even Krautrock and
post-Rock.

Following this train of thought, on my initial listenings it almost
felt like this music had time-travelled to the here and now, or it was
some lost classic reissued today for the acclaim it deserved during
its time.

However, eventually it dawned on me to ask the question: who is making
music like this, right now?

When I consider that, the album suddenly takes on an identity and
uniqueness that it deserves to have acknowledged.

This album does not, in fact, owe anything to its influences for they
are so myriad. They are the life of a musical mind.

When listened to alongside his other work there is a notable
development in the confidence, structure and focus of Jeremy’s
composition, musicianship and arrangement. He makes his music within
his own space and time - wherever that it is.

Evolving melodies drifting over warm basslines, loops and pads. Combining my love of echo laden reverberant pop with the influence of ambient, minimilist, komische and fourth world explorers to hopefully make instrumental music that is both reflective and atmospheric as well as having immediacy and momentum. ... more
